“Whose blood was on your jeans, last night?” she asks when we're back at her trailer. She’s had a shower and changed into something more appropriate for the office, and as I watch her pull her hair up into a high ponytail, I hate that I’m gonna have to lie to her.

“Just club shit, is all.” I stand up and pull her closer to me. Since last night, any amount of space between us seems too far.

“Club shit?” She frowns suspiciously. “Is this the time where we decide what kind of old lady I’m gonna be?” She bites her lip, indicating that she’s nervous.

“What d’ya mean?”

“Well, am I gonna be like Maddy and Alex and know everything, or be more like Shaniya and Lydia, who never ask?” she questions.

“You can be whatever kind you wanna be.” I huff a laugh as I slide my nose across hers.

“Old ladies are trusted by this club. If you wanna know shit, I’ll tell ya. You may not like it, but I won’t keep it from you if that's how ya want it.” I feel like a fraud because there is no way I can tell her that the blood on my jeans, last night, belonged to her father. It’s irrelevant anyway, that fucker has been dead to her for years.

“I don’t know yet. I guess we’ll figure it out.” She quickly pulls out of my arms when her attention goes to the clock on the wall.

“Shit, we’re gonna be late.” Grabbing her purse and jacket she races out the door toward my bike, and I shake my head and laugh as I follow her. Sluts Sanctuary is dead, there ain’t a soul in sight, and as I stand on her trailer step and look at her, waiting by my bike and staring back at me with a puzzled look on her face, I realize that now she’s mine there ain’t no reason for her to be here.

“Come on. I thought you said Nyx wasn’t a morning person.” She urges me to hurry up, and deciding I ain’t gonna push too much on her in one day, I keep my thoughts to myself and get moving.

When we get into town, I park my bike up beside Nyx’s and wait for her to slide off from behind me. I don’t care that we’re late, I still make time to grab her waist and drag her onto my lips for a kiss goodbye.

“You're gonna get me fired.” She giggles, managing to wriggle from my arms and blow me a kiss over her shoulder as she dashes toward the office.

“Have a good day, darlin’.” I smile back at her, getting off my saddle and heading into the studio.

“Someone’s lookin’ pleased with himself.” Nyx is prepping his work-station ready for his first client, a job that I should be doing, but he don’t seem all that mad about it.

“Take it you saw through the window?” I head straight for the back room to hang up my jacket.

“Wouldn’t matter if I didn’t, I’d still know about it.
